In 2013, I started keeping track of all the shows Mari Okada had served as series composer. A couple of months later, I decided to start tracking female directors, too. Eventually, I decided to try tracking women in a number of creative roles in the anime industry: directors, series composers, music composers, character designers, chief animation directors (総作画監督), art directors (美術監督), and color designers (色彩設計).

This blog is just a place for me to do something with all that data. Eventually, I would also like to fill it with profiles of these women, fully and partially translated interviews, and other content.

  1. Hi! Thank you for running this site focused on diversity in the anime industry. Would it be all right if I cited some pages from here for an essay I’m writing for grad school about female anime directors (and why the lack thereof is a problem)?

    1. Sure! This is just a fan blog, so I’m not really sure how academically rigorous this site would be as a source. If you have any questions, feel free to message me on Twitter or email me at violaxcore@gmail.com
